Furnishing ideas for flats in pre WWII tenements
Berliner Altbau – View through double doors
A beautiful view to the living room through double doors. The living room furniture is from Ligne Roset, both of the landscape photos are by Lumas; the photo on the left beckons a pleasant calm into the room. The walnut sideboard on the right is from Minimum at Stilwerk Berlin.
Berliner Altbau – Living room to hallway view
A fabulous view through the door towards an open kitchen and the back guest room. By removing the wall of the so-called 'Berliner Zimmer' (connect front building w. side wing and has very little natural light) we were able to create a spacious, light atmosphere. Yellow and USM Haller sideboards make for an exciting eye-catcher.
Berliner Altbau – open hallway
The so-called 'Berliner Zimmer' (a large room with a small corner window looking to the inner courtyard) connects the front building with a building wing. In this photo, it was opened up by removing the door to an open-plan kitchen and connecting it with a spacious hallway. This resulted in wonderful visual axes from the living room via the hallway to the guestroom in the back. Here too, a color scheme of subdued light greys was used.
Berliner Altbau – open-plan kitchen
Used as an open eat-kitchen for the family, this Berliner Zimmer is the main focus of the apartment. Furnished with a Ligne Roset "Bianco" dining table which can be extended from 1.50m to 3m. Perfect for a family celebration. On the photo shown it was extended to 2m. Dining room chairs by "VIK" Ligne Roset.
Berliner Altbau – GDR art
I crafted the photo showing East German food packages from the 70s myself. My client came to Berlin for the first time in 1978, which is how I got the idea for this one-of-a-kind customized piece. It was meant as a surprise and special souvenir. The red VIPP garbage can adds a finishing touch.
Berliner Altbau – Eat-in kitchen with niche lighting
The frosted-glass-covered opening in the rear wall connects to the back room. A perfect back-lit-style space for spices and drinks.
Berliner Altbau – guest room
With a reclining surface of 160x200, the "Multy" sofa bed by Ligne Roset is an ideal solution for small spaces. Very deliberately, the only color accent is provided by an artwork from L.A. artist Corky Cholakian.
