Color Spaces – Thinking Spaces - Berlin

After studying abroad in Maastricht and New York for a period of time, Dido Roggatz returned to Berlin about ten years ago. As part of her creative endeavors, she translates feelings into sensations; persons or situations are translated into color concepts to kick start the artistic process. She sets out to expand or overcome the input pulse – akin to breaking through established, entrenched thought structures. This transfer is the focus of her contemplative works of art. She does this by means of a reduction – or focus – on abstract "color spaces".

These "color spaces" emerge through the use of pigments that she thickens with acrylic dispersion for particularly matte coats of paint that retain the luminosity of the pigments. The color is applied to the canvas – but in such a way that the individuals pieces of work correspond to a  color room whose effect extends beyond the edge of the canvas and into the room. This mode of operation corresponds to installation art and is enhanced – or reinforced – through a targeted emphasizing of the exhibited works in the hall.
